HCG Injections

The use of HCG injections for weight loss is controversial. However, those using it claim steady weight loss with no side effects. Sublingual HCG is also available.

HCG, or Human Chorionic Gonadotrophin, was first used as a weight loss aid in Europe in the 1950s by a British doctor called Dr Simeons. HCG is a naturally occurring hormone found in pregnant women. The HCG diet consists of a very low calorie diet plan and daily HCG injections. The procedure is controversial and HCG is not approved by the FDA for weight loss. Sublingual HCG is also available, although its effectiveness is questionable.

The theory behind HCG is that it can correct a malfunctioning hypothalamus gland, control appetite and burn up to 2000 calories a day from fat reserves. As dieters are only eating 500 calories a day, in theory 1,500 calories are being used up. Those who promote the diet also believe it can help lower blood pressure, increase energy levels, restore proper metabolism, help with headaches, chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. Those who have had daily HCG injections claim they have no side effects such as anxiety or hunger and have lost 1 to 2 pounds a day.

HCG Weight Loss

The HCG 500-calorie a day diet is basically a low fat, low carbohydrate diet that consists of lean protein along with small amounts of fruit and vegetables. Portions are strictly controlled and no extra fat is allowed. Even some face creams are banned as they may be absorbed through the skin. Very low calorie diets should not be followed for long periods of time as you are at risk of serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies.

HCG Weight Loss Side Effects

There have been some reported side effects in those taking HCG. These include water retention, headaches, irritability, restlessness, breast tenderness, swelling of the injection area and, in rare cases, depression. If you experience any of these symptoms, stop taking the product and consult your doctor.

Sublingual HCG

A liquid form of HCG is available online. The advantages of this are that you do not have to go to your doctor’s surgery for daily injections. However, there is some doubt as to the effectiveness of this sublingual form of HCG. Another drawback is that your doctor will not be monitoring you daily if you go for the do-it-yourself option. Always consult your doctor before following any very low calorie weight loss plan.
